Care for Severe Oral Injuries

Facial trauma consists of serious damage to the facial region, including areas of the gums, teeth, skull and jaw bone. Facial trauma is typically due to accidents or injuries involving falls, motor vehicles, or sports. Patients experiencing facial trauma including excessive bleeding, broken bones, a broken jaw, severe pain or swelling should immediately seek hospital or emergency room treatment. Our team of oral surgeons are on staff at many of the local hospitals in the area, including Parkview Regional Medical Center, Lutheran Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Dupont Hospital. We are able to provide you facial trauma care at the hospital or in our state-of-the-art offices once the emergency has been controlled.

When it comes to facial trauma, we don’t take shortcuts in training or procedures and our doctors are trained in pediatric advanced life support, advanced cardiac life support and advanced trauma life support to ensure you are well taken care of. We also feature a team of registered nurses and a nurse practitioner to help monitor you and keep you safe. Some of the advanced facial trauma procedures we can treat, include:

Facial Lacerations

Deep cuts on or around the face that can involve nerves or blood vessels. These wounds are cleaned and sutured together to heal. Care is taken to ensure the best cosmetic results.

Intraoral Lacerations

Cuts inside the mouth or affecting the lips and tongue that occur from accidents or the impact of teeth on soft tissue. These wounds are evaluated for airway compromises and may need to be sutured closed to heal.

Knocked Out Teeth

If one or multiple teeth are knocked out, the jaw will need to be evaluated to ensure that no broken fragments are still embedded in the socket.

Fractured Facial Bones

Breaks and fractures of the cheek bones, eye sockets and nose need to be addressed right away. Oral surgeons are able to help repair these bones to ensure adequate healing and cosmetic appearance.

Fractured Jaws

Both the upper and lower jaw can become fractured or broken and will require specialist attention to rebuild and properly align for normal use.

Severe Infection

If teeth or gums have become severely infected, or an abscess has formed, severe damage can occur to the bones, teeth and even systemic health.
